Introduction

The continuing art adventures of Doofus and the Duck and their Company of players, as created by my wonderful wife Emma during the never-ending time of COVID-19 pandemic continuing now for a third year into 2022. This is the twenty-third installment of works, the Company remaining at the height of their creative endeavors.

Without further ado, back to the Doofus and the Duck…

December 2022

Doofus and the Duck present, in honour of both the birthday of one of the Company’s earliest supporters (and a professional astronomer) and the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, their tableau of an engraving by 16th century Swiss-German artist Alban Graf taken from Gregor Reisch’s seminal work “Margarita philosophica,” entitled “The Allegory of Astromony (1503),” starring the ABC Interpretive Dance Bandicoot as the Mighty Astronomy, Mathematician, Geographer, and would-be King, Claudius Ptolemaeus

Excellent and beautiful work by both of the actors and the Company’s Set Design team. Gorgeous!

Doofus and the Duck present, in honour of the birthday of one of the Company’s earliest and most loyal supporters and in commemoration of the 362nd anniversary of a woman officially appearing on the English stage for the first time (as Desdemona), their tableau of a work by one of the French Impressionist School’s founders, Oscar-Claude Monet, entitled “Water Lilies and Japanese Bridge (1899),” featuring the Wee Blue Men as The Jubilant Masses

Fantastic!

Doofus and the Duck present, as part of their on-going series of Artworks celebrating the Season of Christmas and in honour of both the International Anti-Corruption Day and the 381st anniversary of the death of Belgian painter Anthony van Dyck, their tableau of a work by Cuban-born contemporary US-artist Arturo Rodríguez, taken from a work by Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh (entitled “La Chambre à Arles”), entitled “Christmas Cart to Helen L. Kohen (~1982),” starring the ABC Interpretive Dance Bandicoot as That Jolly Old Fellow Santa Claus; and featuring the Purple Hippo and the Little Sheep as Helpful, if somewhat Snoozy, Elfs

One finds oneself floating between the Scylla of Outrage and the Charybdis of Outright Laughter. Super!

Doofus and the Duck present, as part of their on-going series of Artworks celebrating the Season of Christmas and in commemoration of the 477th anniversary of the commencement of the Council of Trent, their tableau, suitably modified for the season, of a work by Dutch post-impressionist artist Vincent van Gogh, entitled “Almond Blossom (1890),” featuring the Company’s Wee Folk as The Jolly Christmas Decorators

Simply joyous!

Doofus and the Duck present, as part of their on-going series of Artworks celebrating the Season of Christmas and in commemoration of 369th anniversary of the Declaration of Commonwealth of England with Oliver Cromwell proclaimed as the Lord Protector, their tableau of a humorous homage by current US artist and book illustrator Hudson Talbott, based on a “The Dance” by French post-impressionist artist Henri Matisse, entitled “Christmas Card (2012?),” starring the ABC Interpretive Dance Bandicoot as The Dancing Santa and Shaun the Sheep as Rudolph the Red-nose Reindeer

Another excellent Christmas pastiche from the Company, who are clearly enjoying their work this Yuletide. Cheerfully excellent!

Doofus and the Duck present, as part of their on-going series of Artworks celebrating the Season of Christmas and in commemoration of 17th anniversary of the Declaration of the United Nation’s International Human Solidarity Day, their tableau of a humorous Christmas homage by an unknown artist of the most famous work by Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai, entitled “Christmas Card or The Great Wave off Kanagawa with Santa (1990),” featuring the Purple Hippo as Mr Santa Claus and the Little Sheep as Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer

Super sweet!

Doofus and the Duck present, as part of their on-going series of Artworks celebrating the Season of Christmas and honour the efforts of all of those involved in NASA’s Apollo 8 becoming the first human spaceflight to orbit the moon 54 years ago, their tableau of homage to Dutch-French post-impressionist artist Vincent van Gogh, entitled “The Starry Christmas Eve (2022),” starring the ABC Interpretive Dance Bandicoot as Goodly St Nic Doing His Rounds; and featuring the Purple Hippo as A Happy Elf Helper, and the Little Sheep as Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer

Wishing all at the Company, and all of their supporters, a happy and holy Yuletide!

Doofus and the Duck present, as the last in their series of Artworks celebrating the Season of Christmas and in honour of all of those whose hard work created the Festival of Joy and Happiness that is Christmas, their tableau of a parody work by US artist and children’s book illustrator Hudson Talbot, an homage to Edward Hopper’s “Nighthawks (1942),” entitled “Santa’s Cafe (c.1990s),” starring ABC Interpretive Dance Bandicoot as Mr Santa Claus; and featuring the Purple Hippo, the Little Sheep, and the Little Cheetah as The Elvish Helpers

A suitably wonderful way to end this series. Fantastic!

Doofus and the Duck present, in honour of the End of the Year 2022 CE and as a Pictorial Summation of Year, their tableau of a work by modern US artist Carl Dobsky, a narrative painting, entitled “Ship of Fools (2015),” starring The Company as The Assembled Fools

A wonderful production piece to end the year upon. Evocative, moody, with just the right amount of humour to see us through to the New Year. Magnificent!
